Volunteer

We are looking for passionate and dedicated people to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House® Family Room: Rady Children’s Hospital Orange County.

About Volunteering

The Family Room is located within the Rady Children’s Hospital Orange County, on the 6th floor near the intensive care unit (ICU). It is a special space for families to relax and “get away” while still being close to their child. The role of a Family Room volunteer is to oversee the Family Room, uphold all Family Room and hospital policies, and be supportive to families.

Our volunteers oversee our Family Room every day from 9am-5pm; shifts are 9am-1pm and 1pm-5pm. Volunteers’ main responsibility is to welcome our guests and advise them of our services. There is also some cleaning/straightening required.

Since Ronald McDonald House Family Room: Rady Children’s Hospital Orange County volunteers work inside Rady Children’s Hospital Orange County, you must go through their Volunteer Application Process. This typically takes 45-60 days. All volunteers are asked to make a minimum, one-year commitment for at least one 4-hour shift a week. We are not able to bring on short-term volunteers, special events or days of service requests.

Due to the delicate nature of the atmosphere of our Family Room, a mature volunteer able to handle emotional situations is best suited as a volunteer in our department. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age – high school applicants are not eligible to apply.

If you feel the Family Room would be a good fit for you and your schedule, please email Mary Pat Dooley at mpdooley@rmhsc.org.
